After a driver flees, the order of operations matters.
1) Get medical care—even if you think it’s minor. Some injuries (like soft-tissue damage and concussion symptoms) show up or worsen after adrenaline wears off.
2) Call police and request an incident report. A report number gives your attorney something solid to build on and helps when insurers dispute dates, locations, or injury severity.
3) Lock down details while you still remember them. If you can, write down:
- the direction the vehicle was traveling
- approximate time and traffic conditions
- any partial plate information
- vehicle color, make/model cues, and distinguishing features
4) Don’t make recorded statements without legal guidance. Insurance adjusters may ask questions that sound harmless but can later be used to narrow liability or argue your injuries are unrelated.
