After a hit-and-run, adrenaline and shock are real. But the first hour can make or break your ability to recover compensation.
Do this first (in order):
- Get medical care—even if you think you’re “okay.” Texas juries and insurers look closely at treatment timing.
- Call 911 and ask for an incident report if one hasn’t been made. The report number becomes a key reference for your claim.
- Write down what you remember: vehicle color, make/model guesses, partial plate characters, direction of travel, and anything distinctive.
- Check for nearby cameras: in Farmers Branch, many crashes involve storefronts, apartment areas, and traffic-adjacent businesses that may retain footage briefly.
- Take photos: road conditions, vehicle damage, visible injuries, and where you were standing/located.
If you’re tempted to “wait and see,” don’t. Delays can create avoidable gaps that defense arguments love.
