In the first hours after a driver flees, your choices can affect how strong your case becomes days and weeks later.
1) Get medical care immediately Even if you feel “mostly okay,” Pennsylvania insurers often scrutinize timing and documentation. Treatment records create the foundation for causation and injury severity.
2) Report the crash and ask for the right details If police respond, keep the report number and a copy of what was documented. If you’re contacted later by insurance, refer to the report for consistency.
3) Capture information while you still can If you’re able, note:
- the approximate time and direction of travel
- the roadway/area where it happened
- the vehicle description (color, make/model if known, distinguishing features)
- any partial plate information
- nearby businesses/home cameras that might have recorded the incident
4) Be careful with recorded statements Adjusters may ask questions that seem harmless. In Pennsylvania, what you say can be used to challenge timing, responsibility, or injury claims.
If you want to talk through what to say (and what not to say) before giving statements, that’s something our team handles with you.
