After a hit-and-run, the “right” actions happen fast. Evidence doesn’t wait for you to feel ready.
If you’re able, do these immediately:
- Get medical care first (even if injuries seem minor at first). Delayed treatment can become a major argument later.
- Call 911 and ask for an officer to document the crash scene.
- Capture details while they’re fresh: direction of travel, approximate vehicle type, color, damage to your vehicle, and anything distinctive (lights, grille, dents, stickers).
- Look for nearby cameras—not just traffic cameras. In Butler, many crashes are captured by business doorbell systems, parking-lot cameras, and nearby storefronts.
- Write down witness information (names, phone numbers, where they were standing when they saw it).
Even if you’re tempted to “wait and see,” the first hour is often when the case is made or lost.
