The moments after a hit-and-run matter. If you’re able, do these steps before you discuss details with insurers or anyone else:
- Call 911 and get an incident report. In Pennsylvania, a police report can become a key reference point for later disputes about timing, location, and how the crash occurred.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh: direction of travel, vehicle color/make, approximate speed, and anything distinctive (lighting, damage pattern, sound).
- Document the scene with photos/video if you’re physically able—especially nearby storefronts, streetlights, traffic signals, and any camera-equipped locations.
- Get medical care even if you feel “okay.” Adrenaline masks injuries, and Pennsylvania insurers commonly challenge inconsistent or delayed treatment.
- Avoid recorded statements until you have legal guidance. Adjusters may ask questions that sound routine but can later be used to narrow liability.
If you already made a statement, don’t panic—tell your attorney what was said so we can respond effectively.
