If you’re able, your actions right after the crash can determine whether your case is easy to investigate or needlessly complicated.
- Get medical care first (even if you think you’re “okay”). In Oregon, delayed symptoms can become a dispute later.
- Call 911 and request an incident report if the driver fled or you believe the driver is unknown.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh:
- direction of travel
- vehicle description (color, height, body style)
- approximate speed and point of impact
- anything distinctive (headlight shape, dents, a missing panel)
- Note nearby sources of video—not just the closest business. In Sweet Home, crashes frequently happen near places where cameras may be set to overwrite footage.
Important: Don’t post details on social media or discuss blame publicly. What seems harmless can later be used against you.
