If you’re able, take these actions before you focus on paperwork. The goal is simple: preserve proof while it’s still available.
- Call 911 immediately (or ask to speak to an officer). A police report matters in North Carolina when insurers and other parties need an official record.
- Document your location and timing. In Apex, crashes happen near commuter corridors and everyday intersections—write down the nearest intersection/roadway and approximate time.
- Capture vehicle clues you can still see. Even partial details (color, make/model guess, missing panels, unique damage) can help identify the vehicle later.
- Get witness contact information. If someone saw the crash on a nearby sidewalk or in a parking area, ask for their name/number and what they observed.
- Photograph everything you can. Visible injuries, damage, road conditions (lighting/rain), and debris can all matter.
If you already went to the hospital, that’s fine—your evidence trail can still start there. What’s important is that you don’t wait too long to report and collect information.
