Somerville’s mix of dense streets, frequent crosswalks, and heavy commuting traffic creates a few patterns we commonly see in hit-and-run claims:
- High pedestrian activity near intersections and major corridors. Drivers may leave before anyone can record identifying information—particularly when someone is hurt in a crosswalk.
- Bike and scooter collisions in busy traffic flows. A driver may flee after a sudden lane change or turn, and witnesses may only see fragments.
- Parking-lot and ride-share “drop-off” scenarios. Quick impacts during busy arrival/departure windows can lead to quick flight from the scene.
- Construction and short-term lane changes. Work zones can affect visibility and create disputes about lane control, speed, and whether a driver saw the hazard.
The result: the case often turns on whether we can reconstruct the incident fast enough—before footage is deleted and before witnesses move on.
