If you can, treat the next hour like an “evidence sprint.” In a busy area with frequent foot traffic and nearby businesses, delays can cost you key proof.
Do these priorities first:
- Get medical care immediately (even if you think it’s “minor”). Maryland insurers often look for medical timing and consistency.
- Call 911 and report the crash. Ask the responding officer how the report number will be provided.
- Write down what you observed: vehicle color, make/model clues, direction of travel, and anything distinctive (lights, damage pattern, license plate fragments).
- Identify likely cameras nearby (parking areas, businesses, apartment complexes, traffic signal approaches, and other common-sense locations along the route you saw the vehicle take).
Important: Avoid guessing when you don’t know. What you say (or don’t say) can become part of the claim record.
