In our area, many crashes occur in places where video retention can be short and witnesses may move on quickly:
- Busy commuting routes where drivers may pass by the scene and continue on (and forget details).
- Downtown and retail areas where people are coming and going, and camera angles vary.
- Tourist-driven traffic and seasonal travel, when unfamiliar drivers and rental vehicles are on the road.
- Roadside pull-offs and intersections where the driver may flee once they realize someone is hurt.
When a driver leaves the scene, the clock starts ticking on evidence—security footage may be overwritten, nearby witnesses may become unreachable, and the “who hit me?” question becomes harder to answer.
