Elevator and escalator injuries in our community often involve the situations people don’t expect:
- Door timing issues (doors closing faster than a passenger can safely exit)
- Unexpected movement or jerking during an escalator ride
- Handrail problems—uneven movement, delayed response, or stops-starts
- Trip hazards from misaligned steps, worn surfaces, or debris around the unit
- Inadequate lighting or confusing wayfinding near the device (especially during evening hours)
Local property types can vary—shopping centers, office buildings, hospitality-related facilities, and multi-tenant properties. Regardless of the location, the key issue is the same: someone had a duty to keep the equipment safe and to respond reasonably when problems were known or should have been discovered.
