East Lansing has a lot of predictable exposure points that increase the odds of an animal encounter:
- Campus-area foot traffic near student housing and busy sidewalks
- Daytime deliveries and errands (people passing gates, porches, and entryways)
- Family visits and short-term stays during weekends and seasonal events
- Neighborhood pets where dogs may be handled by roommates, relatives, or caretakers
Because these situations can involve different caretakers and different property arrangements, liability can become more complicated than people expect—especially if the bite occurred at a rental, shared property, or during a brief stop.
