A calculator can’t know how California law and claim handling apply to your specific situation. Even two people with similar-looking wounds may have very different settlement ranges depending on factors like:
- Whether the bite happened in a public/communal setting (common around busy streets, parks, and apartment areas)
- How clearly the medical record describes the wound and the link to the incident
- Whether the dog owner had notice of aggressive behavior (or whether that notice is disputed)
- Whether insurance tries to minimize severity by pointing to early treatment notes
In other words, an estimate is only as good as the assumptions behind it. When those assumptions don’t match what’s provable, the number can drift quickly.
