A calculator is usually built to take a few inputs—like injury severity, treatment received, and whether there are visible marks—and return a rough range. That can be useful as a starting point.
In Indio, however, many dog bite incidents occur in settings where facts can be contested:
- Residential neighborhoods where the dog may be in a yard or on a leash but access/control is disputed.
- Community gathering areas where visitors may be unfamiliar with local pets.
- Day-to-day foot traffic around homes, sidewalks, and driveways where “who was where” becomes important.
A generic estimate can’t reliably account for whether your medical records clearly tie your injuries to the bite, whether the owner had prior notice of aggressive behavior, or whether the defense disputes causation.
