Diagnostic delay claims often look different in real life than people expect. In a town where many residents split care between primary care, urgent care, and specialist follow-ups, delays can show up in the handoffs:
- Abnormal test results from a clinic or ER visit aren’t clearly acted on at the next step
- Imaging reports are filed, but follow-up is delayed because symptoms persist or appointments slip
- A recurring complaint is treated as “watch and wait,” even as symptoms trend worse
- A referral is recommended, but the system doesn’t confirm the patient actually received it in time
Even when every provider intends to help, the patient experiences the gap. From a legal perspective, the key is whether the diagnostic process and follow-up were handled reasonably based on what was known at the time.
