After a collision, people often focus on the obvious—damage to the front end or whether anyone saw the airbag go off. But defective airbag cases can show up in ways that aren’t always immediately clear.
Watch for issues like:
- No airbag deployment despite significant impact
- Deployment that seems abnormal (too forceful, delayed, or not consistent with the crash severity)
- Additional injuries at the moment of deployment (not just impact injuries)
- Repeated warning lights or restraint system messages after the crash
- Repairs that mention airbag components being replaced (or “diagnostics” that suggest a malfunction)
If any of these happened, you’ll want to preserve evidence early—before the vehicle is fully reassembled or the “story” becomes harder to confirm.
