After a crush injury, the first decisions you make can affect whether insurers treat the case seriously.
Do this first:
- Get medical care right away (and follow your provider’s plan). Crush injuries can reveal complications later.
- Request the incident report from your employer or the property/worksite manager.
- Document what you can safely: photos of the hazard, the equipment involved, and the general scene (guards, barriers, pinch points).
- Write down details while they’re fresh: what you were doing, how the equipment was positioned, who was nearby, and any safety steps you remember.
Be cautious with statements: If an adjuster or supervisor asks for a recorded statement, you may want to pause. In many cases, early comments are used to reduce or deny responsibility.
