What you do early can change the outcome. After a jobsite injury—whether it happened at a remodeling site, a new build, or a commercial project—focus on:
- Get medical care and keep records. Even if symptoms seem minor, document what doctors note, including work restrictions.
- Preserve evidence before it disappears. In active construction areas, conditions change fast. If you can do it safely, save photos/video of hazards, signage, barriers, and the exact location.
- Write down the incident while it’s fresh. Include weather/lighting, who was on site, what you were doing, and what you noticed about safety.
- Be careful with statements to insurers. A quick call can turn into inconsistent facts later.
A common Round Lake Beach scenario: crews work around traffic and pedestrians, and witnesses are often split between employees, subcontractors, and passersby. The sooner you document what you saw, the easier it is to counter “we weren’t responsible” defenses.
