After a construction injury, what you do early can affect whether your claim is supported later—especially when job conditions change quickly and crews move on.
Prioritize these actions:
- Get medical care right away (even if symptoms seem minor). Documenting injuries early helps link your condition to the accident.
- Preserve scene evidence if it’s safe: take photos/video of hazards, barriers, signage, access routes, and any traffic-control setup.
- Write down a timeline while it’s fresh—what you were doing, who directed you, what equipment or materials were nearby, and where you were standing.
- Avoid “off-the-record” explanations to insurers or supervisors. Early statements are often repeated back in ways you don’t expect.
- Request the incident report number (or copies) from the site if available.
If you were injured near an active roadway, where pedestrians and vehicles may have been present, your documentation should include what the access and warning systems looked like at the time.
