Even if you feel overwhelmed, the actions you take immediately after a severe accident can affect what insurers accept—or dispute—later.
- Get and follow medical care. Minnesota claims often rise or fall on medical documentation showing the injury and the cause.
- Record what you remember—before it fades. Write down the sequence of events while it’s still fresh: weather, roadway conditions, lighting, what you saw, and what others said.
- Preserve crash evidence. If there’s video (from nearby businesses, homes, or traffic cameras), ask about preservation. Footage can disappear quickly.
- Keep every paper trail. Medical discharge instructions, imaging reports, work restrictions, and insurance communications matter.
- Be careful with statements. Recorded statements may feel routine, but they can be used to argue your symptoms were less severe or unrelated.
If you’re already thinking about using tech to stay organized, treat it as support—not a substitute for attorney review of your records.
