Many burn injuries look better on day one than they end up being. In the weeks after a hot-liquid splash, electrical incident, grill malfunction, or fire-related burn, you may discover issues that weren’t obvious at first—such as deeper tissue damage, infection risk, or scarring that tightens and limits motion.
That’s a big reason automated tools can feel “off.” They typically assume an average course of treatment, but your case value depends on:
- How quickly you received burn care (and whether follow-up continued)
- Whether you needed procedures later (debridement, grafting, additional wound care)
- Whether function changed (hand use, range of motion, sensitivity)
- How long you were out of work in a community where many residents rely on local employers and consistent schedules
In other words, the calculator can’t see what your treating providers eventually document.
