Time matters after a fracture. Evidence can disappear fast, and early statements can be used later to reduce liability or downplay severity.
If you can, take these steps right away:
- Get medical care immediately. Even if you think it’s “just a crack,” delayed diagnosis can complicate causation.
- Document the incident scene. Photos of the roadway/sidewalk condition, lighting, debris, signage, and vehicle positions can be critical.
- Write down your timeline while it’s fresh. Include how the injury occurred, where you were in South Milwaukee (parking lot, crosswalk, construction area, etc.), and what you felt right away.
- Preserve witnesses. In a city with lots of commuting and neighborhood foot traffic, people may not stick around—get names and contact info.
- Be careful with insurance communications. Don’t guess about prior pain or the cause of your fracture.
