Radford cyclists often assume the hard part is over once they get home. In reality, the first couple of days are when evidence and documentation slip away.
**If you’re able, focus on: **
- Get medical care promptly (even if you think it’s “just bruising”). Virginia injury claims rely on records that reflect what happened and when.
- Take time-stamped photos: intersections, lane position, traffic control, road surface issues, your bicycle condition, and any vehicle damage.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh—signals/turning movements, how the vehicle approached, lighting/visibility, and any near-misses.
- Record witness info (name + phone/email). In busy areas, witnesses may disappear quickly.
Important: If an insurance adjuster calls, you don’t have to rush into a detailed statement. Early comments can be used to argue you were partly responsible or that your injuries didn’t come from the crash.
