Right after a wreck, the best “case strategy” is simple: protect safety, document what you can, and avoid statements that can be used against you.
Do this first:
- Get medical care (even if you feel “mostly okay” at the scene). In Texas, early treatment records often become crucial when causation is disputed.
- Photograph the scene if you’re able—roadway markings, intersection layout, lighting conditions, and any hazards.
- Capture vehicle and bike details: damage to the bicycle, helmet (if worn), and the other vehicle’s contact points.
- Write down witness info while it’s fresh—names, what they saw, and where they were standing.
Be careful with:
- Detailed statements to insurance right away.
- Accepting quick settlement offers before you know the full impact of injuries.
- Relying on memory weeks later without any supporting notes or documentation.
