The decisions you make right after a crash can affect whether insurers treat your case as serious and supported. While every situation is different, these steps are especially important locally:
- Get checked promptly — Even if symptoms seem minor, injuries like concussions, soft-tissue strains, and back or neck issues can worsen after the adrenaline wears off.
- Document the scene before it changes — Road conditions, debris, and construction signage can be cleared quickly. Take photos of:
- traffic lights/signage and lane markings
- the position of your bike and the other vehicle
- visible injuries and any damage
- Write down what you remember — Note the direction you were traveling, what the driver did, and how traffic behaved around you.
- Be careful with insurer statements — Adjusters may ask for details early. In Pennsylvania, providing a detailed recorded statement before your medical picture is complete can create unnecessary risk.
- Keep copies of everything — medical paperwork, repair estimates, and any messages you received from the other side.
