In the hours after a bicycle collision, your choices can affect how clearly the story of the crash can be proven.
Start with medical care—even if you feel “okay.” Concussions, soft-tissue injuries, and internal symptoms can show up later. Getting treated promptly also creates a record that insurers can’t easily dismiss.
Document the scene while it’s still there:
- Take photos of the roadway, lane markings, and any traffic control (signals, stop signs, crosswalks)
- Capture vehicle positions (where the car or truck stopped relative to you)
- Photograph your bicycle and helmet (damage can matter)
- Write down the time, direction of travel, weather, and lighting conditions
Get witness information when possible. In suburban areas like Green, people may not stick around—if someone saw the crash, capture their name and contact before they leave.
If an adjuster contacts you quickly, avoid giving a long recorded statement before you understand how Ohio law and evidence rules may affect your claim.
