The first day matters because evidence disappears quickly—especially in a city where roads are constantly used by students, commuters, and visitors.
- Get medical care and ask them to document everything. Even if you feel “mostly okay,” injuries can show up later (concussions, soft-tissue injuries, lingering pain).
- Report the crash appropriately. If there was a motor vehicle involved, make sure the incident is documented through the appropriate channels.
- Capture the scene while you can. Photos of traffic signals, lane markings, curb cuts, debris, and the vehicle’s final position can make or break a dispute.
- Write down what you remember—while it’s fresh. Include things like timing of the light, whether you saw the driver’s turn signal, where you were positioned in the lane, and any curbside activity nearby.
If you’re already past the 24-hour mark, don’t worry—there are still steps that can strengthen your claim.
