Right after an accident, the goal is simple: protect your health and preserve facts.
- Get medical care promptly. Even “minor” pain can worsen, and a delay can complicate how insurers view causation.
- Document the scene while you can. If you’re able, take photos of the roadway, lane position, traffic control (signals/signs), debris, and both vehicles/bicycles.
- Write down what you remember. Note directions of travel, what the other driver was doing (turning, merging, stopping), and any traffic issues nearby.
- Be careful with recorded statements. Insurers may ask questions designed to narrow liability.
If you want to be extra organized, you can build a quick timeline for your attorney—what happened first, what you noticed immediately, when symptoms began, and when you got treatment.
