Pressure ulcers (also called bedsores) happen when skin and underlying tissue are subjected to prolonged pressure, friction, or shearing—often in residents who are bedridden, have limited mobility, or need assistance with turning and hygiene.
Families in Guttenberg and Bergen/Hudson-area communities often report a common pattern:
- A loved one seems “fine” at first,
- Then redness or broken skin appears,
- Then documentation and explanations get harder to pin down.
Legally, the key question is whether the facility provided care consistent with what a reasonably prudent nursing home would do—especially after identifying risk factors (mobility limitations, moisture/incontinence issues, nutrition concerns, or cognitive impairment).
