In many Kentucky communities, families are juggling work schedules, school pickup times, and long drives for visits. That reality can unintentionally delay “what we saw” conversations with facility staff—especially when early warning signs are subtle (like persistent redness or skin breakdown at bony areas).
Legally, though, the claim isn’t about hindsight or blame-on-one-shift. Bedsores frequently point to breakdowns in:
- risk assessment practices (did the facility recognize risk early?)
- turning/repositioning consistency (was the resident moved on schedule?)
- skin monitoring (were changes documented when they first appeared?)
- wound response (did treatment match the severity?)
- follow-through on care plans (were instructions actually implemented?)
In other words, bedsores can reflect whether the facility’s care system worked—or whether it didn’t.
