A bedsore (pressure ulcer) is not just a “skin problem.” In most cases, it signals that a resident’s risk factors weren’t managed the way a reasonably careful facility would. That can include failures such as:
- inconsistent repositioning or turning schedules
- missed or delayed skin checks
- incomplete documentation of wound status
- lack of appropriate wound care escalation
- inadequate nutrition/hydration support for healing
In California, nursing homes are expected to follow established standards of care and maintain records that reflect ongoing monitoring. When the documentation doesn’t match the resident’s condition—or when the timeline doesn’t make sense—liability questions often become central.
